Together with Enexis
On sunny days more and more power is fed back to the grid. In some neighbourhoods more than the cables can handle, and that can cause damage or even power cuts.
That’s why Enexis works together with Zonnedimmer. If you live in one of the selected areas, we briefly dim your solar panels when the grid is full. You see in the app when that happens, and you get paid for it.

Grid congestion
When many homes with solar panels feed a lot of power back at the same time, the local grid can no longer carry it. That’s called feed-in congestion. It mostly happens around midday, when the sun is strongest and little power is used.
By briefly limiting solar generation at those moments, the peak stays below what the grid can handle. That frees up room on the grid, without new cables having to go into the ground straight away.
How it works
When the grid in your area is about to get full. Mostly at weekends and on public holidays, around midday. How often and for how long depends on the weather forecast and the expected electricity use in the region.
€ 0.25 for every kWh not generated because of dimming. We pay out monthly, once you’re above the payment threshold of € 5.
Using your installation’s historical generation and the local solar irradiance measured by the KNMI. That way we account for the orientation of your panels and the weather where you live.
Which areas
Your grid operator selects the areas where the grid is full because of solar power. Those areas depend on the cables in the ground and don’t match a municipality or town.
Whether your address takes part, you see in the first step of signing up, right after entering your postcode and house number. Did you receive a letter from Enexis in spring 2026? Then you live in one of the areas.

Frequently asked questions
No. The compensation only applies if you live in an area selected by your grid operator, and if you agree to dimming on behalf of your grid operator when you sign up. Whether that’s possible for your address, you see right after entering your postcode and house number.
Your grid operator. We calculate how many kWh were dimmed and pay the compensation out to you. What it earns
Without live data from your meter, we dim all installations in the area by the same percentage. If you use a lot of power yourself at that moment, for example for air conditioning or charging your car, you may draw a little extra from the grid. The compensation makes up for that.
With the Zonnedimmer dongle we read your smart meter live and dim only what you don’t use yourself. That works with most brands, not yet with Enphase and Huawei. About the dongle
No. We dim through the cloud of your inverter manufacturer, following their guidelines and keeping your warranty intact. No technician needs to visit.
Your panels generate less while dimming, and in the app you see live when that happens. As soon as the grid has room again, we switch your installation back to full power.
Yes, any time. In the app you switch permission for dimming on behalf of your grid operator on or off.
